Getting to Know Solos Meet the Customer Event Brings Solos Together with West Employees

Eagan, Minn. headquarters was at capacity for a recent event that featured four solo attorneys and an audience of more than two hundred West employees. The Meet the Customer event, which is held quarterly, provides an opportunity for West to learn more about ways to tailor our products and services to meet the real-world needs of customers like solo practitioners.
As the panelists talked about their work, employees gained an appreciation for the independent nature of solos, as well as the challenges they face. As one panelist said, "We're independent and have no boss…yet we do – the client is the ultimate boss." The attorneys described how technology such as Westlaw® is leveling the playing field for solo attorneys, allowing them to do comprehensive research with the most current materials, on par with larger firms. Conversely, some of the solos preferred print materials for their daily research needs. Solos also praised the quality of West's customer service and free Reference Attorney research services.
Getting close to customers is important to West. From events such as Meet the Customer, West is learning more ways to create products and services that become invisible partners in solos' firms, helping with research, billing, marketing and other tasks. "I wear every hat in the law office!" exclaimed one panelist. With a special array of products and services designed especially for solos, West will be there to provide solos with the resources they need to thrive.
