New user interface for Campus Research–Legal Information

Simpler, more precise searching with Campus Research

We've redesigned the user interface and added other enhancements to Campus Research, powered by Westlaw. These changes will simplify students' online research and make search results more precise.

The enhancements were based on usability studies we conducted with college and university students and librarians, and will help students find more relevant information more easily. Enhancements include:

Prominent search boxes — students know immediately where to start
Basic Search and Advanced Search — standard Internet terms that students understand; both options are available in the News & Business Tab and the Law Tab

Template for Advanced Searches — precise searches without knowing Boolean logic; students can quickly:
- Enter search terms
- Choose connectors ("and"/"or") from the menus
- Exclude terms ("not" field)
- Restrict by date
- Select information categories (a new, simplified News & Business list, too!)
- Limit News & Business searches to headlines and lead paragraphs
- Identify duplicate News & Business documents

Shortcuts — links in the left navigation bar to frequently used content and aids:
- News & Business — Publications List, Hoover's company records, and SEC filings
- Law — Content List, searching by citation, KeySearch, U.S. Constitution, famous cases, topical legal guides, pre-law materials, and more
Broader law searches — select as many as 10 content categories in one search
